John Bossi

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor

John Bossi is a Brown Belt under Carlson Gracie Jr with 8 years experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, 7 of which were as an instructor in one capacity or another. He began his journey at GAMMA under former coach Fabio Holanda (BTT Canada) and was instructing as an early Blue Belt under his direct supervision and guidance. He gained more experience as Assistant Instructor and later Head Instructor of the Junior BJJ class and began the early morning classes after having received his Purple Belt. These years of tutelage under one of the top coaches in Canada and North America were pivotal in the development of the skills and knowledge necessary to becoming the head instructor at the Gamma Academy in 2011.

John is a firm believer in fundamentals, what others generally refer to as 'Old School Jiu Jitsu'. The focus of the training sessions is to concentrate on the proven nuts and bolts of BJJ first, adding refining touches and newer techniques along the way. John is also one of the top referees in the area and in regular contact with the IBJJF Rules Department. Students are trained with the rules and regulations in mind so that if they do compete, they are aware of the structure and boundaries awaiting them. This provides them with a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in the transitions and movements and gives them a guideline to follow. John also trains under Coach Jason Chen (Level 3 Instructor from the Montreal Wrestling Club) in Wrestling.

The atmosphere is open and respectful and is structured to elevate the students fitness level while learning one of the most technically demanding and fulfilling martial arts. The training is geared for all levels and caters to both the recreational practitioner as well those who wish to compete.
